 UQ eLearning System

The central eLearning system at the University of Queensland is Blackboard . Blackboard is a Learning Management System (LMS) which provides an online teaching and learning environment over the internet. It is accessed with a browser like Internet Explorer, Safari or Netscape Navigator.

For more information about system requirements, please visit the ITS Helpdesk Blackboard Support page.

Blackboard provides:

o a user-friendly interface which allows site customisation (colour schemes, layout etc),
o a set of educational tools to support learning, communication and collaboration,
o a set of administrative tools to assist the site Instructor to manage and continuously improve the site.

Integration

Blackboard's versatile platform provides an opportunity to integrate with other UQ systems, thus enhancing the functionality of the system. Currently Blackboard has been integrated with the si-NET system, allowing automatic student enrollment into a Blackboard site.

Blackboard Implementation Project

The purpose of this project has been to migrate the UQ Learning Management System from WebCT Standard Edition to Blackboard.  An interim migration to WebCT Campus Edition was required for second semester 2004. The project commenced in 2004 and was completed at the end of Semester 1 2005.

The decision to move to the Blackboard system was based on a tender and full evaluation involving stakeholders from across the UQ community. Details on the evaluation process can be found here.

The Project Charter includes detailed information about the project aims, key performance indicators, stakeholders, associated committees and project deliverables.

A comprehensive Change Management and Communication Plan  has been developed by the Project Management Team. The aim of the plan is to provide a framework for managing and coordinating communication, and engendering UQ community engagement with and commitment to the implementation of Blackboard.  The plan identifies the major stakeholders affected by the project, outlines the communication and change management approach and plan, and articulates a range of strategies and events to meet the objectives of this plan.
